This year I am trying my hardest to eat healthier and with doing that I am trying to make sure my kids eat healthier too. So I’ve created a “snack bar” in our fridge and ever time my kids want a snack, they now know they can only get something from the “snack bar” and they are not allowed to eat the same thing twice in one day. This has helped so much in our home. Not only with snack time but when it comes to packing the kids lunches and I’ve even cheated and used some of these while making dinner since everything is already washed and cut. 🙂 I’ve even noticed my husband and I using the Snack bar instead of getting something out of the pantry. So far it seems to be working.
Every week I am trying to change up the options a little and so far the kids and the hubby are loving the “snack bar”. Even my 5 year old, who is not the biggest veggie fan, seems to be eating from and enjoying the snack bar.
Some of the items I’ve used:
carrots, radishes, apples, oranges, celery, cherry or grape tomatoes, sweet peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, hard boiled eggs, string cheese, kale salad. There are many more options too, these are just what we’ve used so far. I’ve also used little dressing containers and filled them with ranch and before bagging the sliced apples I soaked them in a “lemon bath”, it’s just a bowl of cold water with a few table spoons of lemon juice.
It only takes about 1 hour of prep time and we have a weeks worth of healthy snack options.
